Waterloo becomes Ebola hotspot
We have recently received the following news from Badara Mansaray, the Chair of the Waterloo Partnership, Sierra Leone:
‘There are 36 new Ebola cases in the Waterloo area during the past few days and 35% of these have died, with 4 deaths yesterday. Some more have to be confirmed.
About 300 people are now quarantined and we are expecting more if new suspected cases are confirmed. Waterloo has now been officially listed as one of the ‘Ebola hot spots in the Western Area.’
In response we have been able to send a further £1000 to our SL partners, to provide food aid to those in quarantine. The number quarantined is likely to rise steeply after the ‘lockdown’ scheduled for 19 – 21 September. This is an enforced three day curfew designed to identify new cases.
More help will almost certainly be needed, and so far we have received around £2,000 in donations towards our emergency fund for the Ebola crisis. We are immensely grateful for everyone’s generosity: whatever support we can give is deeply appreciated by our partners in Waterloo, Sierra Leone.
